Kyanite is a mineral found mainly in metamorphic rocks. It is found in schists and gneisses, and is typically blue in color, though it can be clear or green. It forms blade-like crystals and can sometimes be found with quartz. It is unusually hard and heat resistant, which makes it suitable for use in the manufacture of bricks, mortar, and certain porcelain products. Kyanite can also be found in certain rock formations here in our home state of Connecticut.
