Galena is the natural mineral form of lead sulfide.  It is an important ore for lead, and is also mined as a source for silver.  Galena, aside from its use as an ore, is probably best known as the type of crystal that was used historically in making crystal radios.  These galena samples can be used in place of a crystal diode to make a crystal radio.

Lead in the form of dust is toxic.  In crystal form it is safe.  However, to remain on the cautious side, we have these items available online or in store on request only.  If you would like to purchase a galena specimen in-store, please ask, and we will be happy to help; they are not out on the sales floor.

NOTE:  The item photographed is similar to the one you will receive.  These specimens come in two sizes, the smaller weighing 1.4 ounces, and the larger weighing between 2.5 and 3 ounces (large is shown).  Sizes vary from 1.25" to 2".  Country of Origin: Peru.
