The African elephant is today the largest land animal, it can measure up to 13 feet high for a weight of about 7 tons. This mammal is easily recognizable thanks to its long ivory tusks, which can weigh up to 220 pounds alone. The species is now declining because of poaching and the progressive destruction of its habitat.
