About Us

Skeeter's Toybox is a new specialty toy retailer located in downtown Putnam, Connecticut.  We are located in the old Montgomery Ward building in the former location of Arts & Framing / Socher Art Gallery.  We opened in mid-October of 2018, with a vision of bringing unplugged toys to Main Street.  Only a few of our toys need batteries and even fewer come with lights and sounds.  We encourage creative, unstructured, open-ended play, where children are encouraged to use their imaginations without relying on the latest licensed characters. 

Our lower level contains most of our 0-3 year old toys and includes a modest selection of classic hardcover children's books.  Our upper level loft has activities for children ages 5 and up, including games, puzzles, craft kits, science kits, Breyer horses, and handpainted figurines by Papo.  Come on down and see what we have!  If there is something you need that you can't find, let us know.

Our web store contains a good sampling of the many more items to be found at our Brick and Mortar store.  We can also ship many items as needed.

STORE HOURS:  Currently, we are open 5 days a week, 11am-5pm (closed Tuesdays Wednesdays).  Please note that we only ship on the days we are in the store.  Orders placed on days we are closed will go out on the next business day.  This affects your shipping time.

All large packages will be sent via UPS Ground, regardless of the shipping option you picked.  This is because the rate calculators do not account for package volume, and actual USPS Priority rates are much higher than what the rate calculators come up with.  In most cases, we will cover the additional cost of upgrading to UPS Ground at no additional cost to you.

We offer in-store pickup for local shoppers.  Choose "In-store Pickup" as your shipping method at checkout on our website.  We are also happy to take orders over the phone for pickup.  Call us during our business hours.

We will offer private shopping hours on a limited basis for those who have special needs.  Please call us during business hours to make an appointment.  We're here to help.

If you don't live locally, and you pick "In-Store Pickup" or "Curbside Pickup" for your shipping option, we will be calling you to request a payment for shipping.

If our card processors suspect a fraudulent purchase was made via this website, we will be contacting you via email to provide proof of your identity.  If we do not hear back from you within 24 hours, we will automatically cancel your order.  We reserve the right to cancel and refund any order which we suspect of fraud without contacting you for proof of identity.
